Evaluation Questions

Q1) In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
In my research and analysis of 4 different indie genre music videos my media product uses challenging of convention forms by using various of camera shots, mise-en scene which gives audiences a sense of what genre my music video is aimed at. This therefore helped us in discussed the techniques in which we've included developed our conventions and ideas. The use of mise-en scene in my media production shows audiences that my music video is an indie genre this is because our main character's use of costume is grey, black Hood skinny black jeans and the props were his necklace and ear ring etc. The colour of his connotes that the mood of the music video is depressing and sad and that he fits in the indie genre.
Often indie genre music have bands such as snow patrol street manic preachers etc. However I've looked at some indie genre music video's which had solo artists such as the The Verve Bittersweet Symphony and The kooks Naive where they only have one artist walking along and performing as they look at the camera.
However the structure of my narrative in my music video production is about one main artist who is represented as emotional this is because his ex-girlfriend had an affair with two different boys. This suggests that she's in control and the fact that everywhere he goes she appears. As Todorov the narrative theorist suggested that stories begin with equilibrium with a calm atmosphere then suddenly a disrupted-event occurs. The part on when the event disrupted occurs is when he's at the cafe and glares at his girlfriend cheating. Thats when the disrupted event occurs which is why we've applied Todorov's theory in our narrative this is when tension begins to rise and audiences begin to watch the music video.
Q2) How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

From our analysis in different indie genre music videos we've combined our main music video production with the ancillary text which helps us develop our skills and understanding on how to complete my music production successfully. This is because not only I was researching indie genre music video I've also looked at indie poster advertisement and digipak album covers which gave me hints and ideas on how my digipak album cover will look.
In my music production I've introduce a new artist into the market this is because we was able to build his image by the use of his costume and his hair style which implies to audience he's a suitable indie character. My poster and the digipak album cover the main character was holding the map upside down which signifies to audiences that he's quirky and feels that he's been neglected and lost. My music video production promotes the single this is because the video mainly shows the artists itself performing doing a solo without the band. Whereas the digipak album cover highlights its promoting the album this is because it has it has different available tracks at the back at the digipak album cover.

Q3) What have you learned from your audience feedback?
In my A2 film production what I've learnt from my audiences feed back was that I've could of improved my music production by using various of transitions and different camera angle shots in the opening and more performance scenes could have been included. For example there was only lip synching and performing scenes in the chorus. Which is why my audiences feel that I don't have enough performing scene because indie genre music videos often have performing scenes in order the video can introduce the character to the audience.
The opening of my music video where we have various walking shots with use of different camera angles I felt that this was quite dull for audiences because once the main character leaved the house we should of at least have a two minutes walking shots then the action. These two have quite similar shots and the fact the walking scene is at least 0:50-1.28 which is quite long and audiences find it boring to watch. I feel that I've could of improved on the opening by reducing the walking shots and begin with the performance. Not enough performance shots were included which what i've learnt to improve on from my audiences feedback.
However I've managed to get my lip synching right at the first performance which was an achievement this is because many audiences liked the lip synching.
What I've also learned from my audiences was the quality of the image because the colour corrections needed to be included.
Other than that the majority of audiences response on Facebook and youtube enjoyed my media production.

Q4) How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Our media product uses varieties of new media technologies which helped us with our research and planning by accessing varieties of new technology such as blogging and and use of youtube. I feel that using new media technology helped us with our media product this was because I was able to access youtube and find the indie genre music video and embed it onto blog. This means that I don't always have to access youtube to find that specific video I can just view my blog and play the embedded video and talk about how the artists fits into the indie genre.
I was also able to embed the video onto Face-book where I could get most of my feedback from audiences friends and family. This helped me with my evaluation blog this was because my audiences told me what they liked about it and what could be improved or what else should be included.

Photoshop was another media technology I used which helped me develop my editing on my poster advertisement. This was because my main background only green trees. However the background didn't really linked to the name of the album which is why I've decided to cut out the main character and positioned him in the background with theforest which suggest to audiences that he feels lost. The tool that I've used to cut the character was the quick selection tool which helped me only grab the character and then placed him onto the screen.

This was the original background from the photograph I took of my main character. What I didn't like is the fact that the background seemed that he didn't look lost which is why I've decided to place him at the forest. I took a picture of the background then I've placed the layer of the character onto the background. After that I've changed the hue saturation of the character which makes it stand out more and suggest that he looks more lost in a forest.

YouTube was a useful media technology tool used which helped me with my construction and evaluation stages.

This was because I filmed a couple of my friends and ask them to give me feedback on what they liked about the poster advertisement and what could be included and improved. I've uploaded it onto YouTube then embedded the code onto my blog so that don’t I always have to access YouTube in order to find the video. YouTube also helped me with my music video. This was because I was able to upload my video onto YouTube where I could get comments from my target audience for e.g. what could of been included and what could be improved etc.
YouTube also helped us because we was able to upload my music video onto the website and get feedback from my target audience.
Youtube also helped me with my music video. This was because I was able to upload my video onto youtube where I could get comments from my target audience for e.g. what could of been included and what could be improved etc.

Face-book helped me with my evaluation stages on my blog this was because I was also able to embed the video onto Face-book where I could get most of my feedback from audiences friends and family. This helped me because my audiences told me what they liked about it and what could be improved or what else should be included.

Slideshare
Slide share website helped me with our planning activities stages. This is because in my planning where I had the characters timetables and scripts which was saved on to word and power point I was able to upload it onto slide share and embed it onto my blog.

I felt that this has helped me because it shows that I’m using various of technologies on to my blog.

Slide share was also a helpful media technology this was because I was also able to send links if my group member needed to have a look at the characters timetable and filming schedule in order for the group to be on track when they were not present in class.
